The production of wines covered by the Appellation of Origin Tarragona will be made exclusively with the following varieties of Vitis Vinifera:

It is possibly of Catalan origin. Together with parellada and macabeo it is the third variety used to elaborate Cava, contributing to it with body and structure. It is one of the varieties of white with the most quality and character. Of irregular production, due to the fact that it is very sensitive to frost and illnesses like mildew. Bunches are medium sized and dense. The berries are compact, round and sweet. The wines are balanced, consistent, aromatic and of high acidity, with fresh and fruity (apple) aromas. They can mature in bottle for many years if complementing other varieties, but they don?t give a good result if drunk as young wines. Currently they are being improved. |
